How to fix Computer Blue Screen Error?

Computer Blue screen error is also called Blue screen of death (BSOD). If you're reading this page, chances are you've had experience with this error. There are many reasons for the PC blue screen error. The most common reason is corrupted Windows system files or hard disk. This page will explain how to fix the blue screen bug if your Computer is running on Windows XP.


The blue screen of death often occur when your computer is starting up, resulting the PC is not usable. This means that your computer could not connect to the boot partition (the container for all of your operating system and support files) due to a corrupted storage driver or any one of a host of like problems.

Some Computer blue screen error messages provide the reason for the error. Read the details after the word STOP in the error message.

Example:
STOP 0x0000007B (INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE).

Below are few different ways to resolve this error.
  1. Turn your computer off, insert the Microsoft Windows XP CD , re-start the Computer and boot from the CD.
  2. When given the Press any key to continue prompt, press any key on your keyboard.
  3. At this point, a Welcome to Setup screen should appear. DO NOT reinstall Windows XP at this time. Instead, press R to access the Recovery Console. A screen listing all of the operating systems on your computer will appear. Type in the number of the system you were using when the blue screen crashes started (most people only have one operating system installed, so you will in all probability type 1).
  4. At this point, you will be prompted to enter your administrator password. Enter the password A screen with the prompt C:\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\WINDOWS> and a blinking cursor should appear.
  5. Type in CHKDSK /R and press Enter. Make sure that you include a space between the 'K' and backslash. The meaning of this command is to check the disk and repair.
  6. Check Disk will spend anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours checking the integrity of your system files. When it's done, type Exit and hit Enter. Make sure that you select the option to boot normally as opposed to from CD when your computer restarts.
Your Computer should not receive the Blue screen bug after restarting it.

If you are experiencing the blue screen bug in other areas apart from at the start-up you can use the CHKDSK command from Windows to fix the error. Here is how to do it.
  • Go to My Computer.
  • Right click the drive or disk you want to scan (example C: drive).
  • On the menu that pops up, click the last option, Properties.
  • Click the second tabbed option on the resulting menu – Tools.
  • In the error-checking box, click the button marked Check Now.
  • A box pops up giving you the ability to check two different boxes: Automatically fix file system errors and/or Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. Click on both.
  • When Check Disk finishes, restart your computer.
If you had any corrupted files, Check Disk should have corrected them. If you are still encountering blue screens of death, at this point, you can perform a repair install (note: only if you have Windows XP).

Here is how to do XP repair install

 
Shut down your PC. Insert the Windows XP and restart (boot from the CD). When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.
  1. Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.
  2. Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.
  3. In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.
  4. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.
